Music has, since the dawn of humanity, been an essential medium through which people express emotion, communicate, and connect with one another. Countless works of music, born from moments of inspiration by great minds, have moved audiences and enriched everyday life.
While live performance remains the experience closest to the true essence of music, audio equipment that enables music to be reproduced in the spaces where we live is also one of the ways modern civilization brings music into daily life.
Realizing the Vision: Calyx
We hoped that more people could approach the essence of music more easily and in more convenient environments. With this aspiration, Digital & Analog was founded in 1999 with the goal of developing energy-efficient Class D amplifier semiconductors. Through the acquisition of core technologies and numerous patents, we succeeded in bringing our ICs into mass production in just over a year. These chips were supplied to multiple manufacturers and have since been used in tens of millions of audio products worldwide.
Six years later, in 2005, we decided to further define our vision by launching our own brand. In a letter titled Yeowon Guseo (與元舅書), the poet Bai Juyi wrote: “Poetry takes emotion as its root, words as its sprout, sound as its flower, and meaning as its fruit.” From this metaphor—sound as the flower—we chose the name Calyx, the part of a flower that supports and sustains its bloom.
Making Every Moment Richer
Since then, we have introduced a wide range of products, including compact USB headphone amplifiers, desktop active speakers, DACs, amplifiers, and digital audio players. Among them, the Calyx Femto DAC—the world’s first to employ a femtosecond clock—was selected as Product of the Year by leading international publications. The portable digital audio player Calyx M also received critical acclaim from the media and was honored with both the iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award, earning global recognition for its innovative design and engineering.
At Calyx, we continue to research, design, and manufacture audio systems that allow the emotion of live music to be fully experienced—in the palm of your hand, on your work desk, and in your living room. Our aim is to create products that remain close to you, quietly supporting your everyday moments with music.
